SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS COMMUNITY GRANTS
Splendour in the Grass has proudly called the Byron Shire home for the past 17 years and is committed to supporting important local community initiatives.
Seven local community groups and organisations have been selected to benefit from 2017 funding, including:
• Lions Club of Brunswick – Mullumbimby
• Brunswick Heads Girl Guides
• Corem Mullumbimby
• The Uncle Project
• Lone Goat Gallery Byron Bay
• Ocean Shores Primary School
• Elysium Project – Lateen Lane, Byron Bay
Each year Splendour provides cash donations to local community groups, totaling over $500,000 in grants throughout the Byron Shire since 2000. Some of the previous recipients have included Mullumbimby and District Neighbourhood Centre Inc, Brunswick Valley Meals on Wheels Inc, Shara Community Gardens, Byron Community Centre, Billinudgel Pets For life Animal Shelter, Brunswick Valley Landcare, Brunswick Valley Rescue, Mullumbimy High School, Ocean Shores Soccer Club, WIRES, Pottsville and District Men’s Shed Inc, Crabbes Creek Primary School, and Brunswick Heads Primary School.
Splendour in the Grass is again donating $1 from every event ticket sold, with $32,500 to distribute amongst local groups and services, ensuring that those from all corners of the community can benefit from the annual event.
The response to the 2017 Splendour Community Grants call out was our biggest year yet, with over 50 applications lodged. After extensive review and much deliberation Splendour is thrilled to announce the beneficiaries of the 2017 Splendour in the Grass Community Grants Fund!
Lions Club of Brunswick – Mullumbimby
Lions Club serves the general community and people in need of a helping hand. Lions Club provide small academic grants to primary and highschools in our area, help people with disabilities, and those needing specific medical equipment or aid. Their biggest project is the “Driver Reviver” based at the Yelgun Rest Area where they serve around 20,000 cups of tea/coffee to weary travellers each year.
Brunswick Heads Girl Guides
Girl Guides Brunswick Heads offers weekly after school and weekend activities through out the year for girls aged 5 to 17. Their mission is to empower girls and young women to grow into confident, self-respecting, responsible community members, by providing a values based dynamic and flexible non-formal educational program for girls and young women, in a fun and supportive girl’s only environment.
Corem Mullumbimby
Corem works within the community, providing energy efficiency education and solar installation projects to encourage and maximize our transition to renewable energy and reduce our reliance on fossil fuel generated electricity.
The Uncle Project
The Uncle Project is a Byron Bay based organisation dedicated to helping young boys aged 6 -12 years from single parent families who could benefit from a more supportive environment of positive male role models in order to build confidence and resilience.
Lone Goat Gallery Byron Bay
Lone Goat Gallery serves the Northern Rivers artists community specifically, and also the wider Byron Shire, supporting local high profile and emerging artists and providing a quality range of diverse exhibitions. Ocean Shores Primary School
Year four of a five-year commitment to Ocean Shores Public School Music Program, which saw the school receive $25,000 over five years, providing long-term support for students at the school. The partnership is focusing on music in our community, targeting instrumental, percussion and choral education for students in Kindergarten to Year 2.
Elysium Project – Lateen Lane
ELYSIUM brought together a team of creative professionals driven by a desire to activate underutilised urban spaces and transform them into places of wonder and beauty. The project involved artwork installations by five Byron Shire artists – Christina Waterson, Kellie O’Dempsey, Max Beaur, Harley Graham and Colleen DaRosa, with its aim being to uplift and enliven a key CBD site through a curated application of colour, pattern, light, form, texture and planting – integrated with existing structures.
This year Splendour also raised over $65,000 through our Northern Rivers Flood Relief Fundraiser.
These funds were distributed equally amongst the flood affected Tweed, Lismore and Byron Shires.

Assisting with these local initiatives is very important to us, and we hope this contribution will play a part in enriching the lives of those in this community” said Splendour co-producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco.
