Byron Shire Council responds to unauthorised holiday letting
Byron Shire Council estimates there are more than 1000 dwellings available for short-term holiday rental across tourist and visitor accommodation websites. Byron Shire Council’s Director Sustainable Environment and Economy, Shannon Burt, said that while short term rental accommodation is an important part of Byron’s tourism industry, unauthorised holiday letting has a negative impact on many people living in residential areas. Byron Council to form National Tourism Alliance
Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson, will write to all councils in Australia inviting them to be members of a Tourism Councils Advocacy Alliance aimed at helping local governments around the country develop and promote ideas on how to manage the impact of tourism. Plastic Free Byron
Plastic Free Byron, an association of eight local not-for-profit environmental organisations and community groups, is leading a voluntary plastic bag boycott in Byron Bay, to be in full effect by July 31, 2017.
