The NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events has launched a mid-term review of the Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan, the blueprint for NSW’s Visitor Economy.

In 2012, the NSW Government released the Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan, providing strategies and actions to achieve the NSW Government’s goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.

The plan outlines a whole-of-government approach in partnership with industry to achieve this target, and is a response to the Final report of the Visitor Economy Taskforce

From March 2011 to March 2017, NSW has seen a 24.3% increase in overnight visitor numbers, a 28.2% increase in visitor nights and a 37.3% increase in overnight visitor expenditure.

To ensure the government’s priorities and actions deliver results in the three years remaining to the 2020 target, the NSW Government has established an industry-led Visitor Economy Taskforce to conduct a mid-term review of the plan.

The Visitor Economy Taskforce will undertake extensive stakeholder engagement and consultation across relevant tourism industry sectors, and within metropolitan and rural and regional NSW the Byron Shire consultation will take place on Monday 4th December.
